Welcome to Year 1

Our classes are called Pufferfish and Clownfish. Our class page will hopefully provide the answers to any questions you may have but if you need any further information, please speak to a member of the Year One team. 

 

Useful Information

PE days are Tuesday's and Thursday's for both classes. Children must come to school in their kit. This half-term our topic is dance.

Homework will be sent home on a Friday and must be returned by the following Wednesday. 

 

 Woodland days this term will be:

Clownfish - 6th October and 24th November

Pufferfish - 13th October and 1st December

Please send your child in appropriate clothing for the weather on that day. 

             

Homework    

Homework is handed out on a Friday and expected back the following Wednesday. 

We encourage children to come up with the answers independently, but please help them read the questions if needed.

Please spend no longer that 25 min doing homework. If your child finds it tricky, please let us know and we can go through it in school. 

Children will be given spellings that will be tested. They will also be given Maths and Phonics to reinforce class learning. Daily reading is also essential. 

 

Reading

Reading is an essential life skill, therefore your child will read in school three times a week. We ask that you reinforce this at home by reading with your child daily. We also encourage reading for pleasure. Your child will bring home a book from our reading area for you to read to them. We have a wide selection of books and your child will be encouraged to change their book as often as they would like. 

Phonics

Your child is taught to read and write using phonics. The phonics scheme we use to support your child's learning is called Supersonic Phonic Friends. School will be holding phonics and reading workshops during the autumn term so please look out for dates.
